JOB PURPOSE:

For Pearson Higher Education, a development editor’s key focus is creating sales-enabling content and packages through extensive research on market requirements and current treds. Development editors possess superior language and editing skills; are creative, but detail-oriented and organized; have the ability to maintain tight schedules across multiple projects; and always employ excellent communication skills.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential: Master degree.

  • About 3-4 years work experience, preferably in editorial, product development and/or production roles.

  • Work closely with content in different disciplinesand the same time juggle a number of concurrent projects,

  • Excellent and persuasive written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to set goals, prioritize tasks, build effective agendas and lead successful and efficient meetings.

  • Ability to collaborate with key stakeholders and work in teams with a high degree of functional diversity.

  • Prior experience in digital product development/management and project management will be an advantage.

  • Proficiency with PC, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

üWithin this team, development editors are responsible for shaping manuscripts into rich and innovative texts, both print and electronic.

üTo design courses and market-oriented learning solutions, DEs use a detailed and comprehensive process of review, feedback, and testing, as well as shape language for maximum lucidity and clarity.

üA development editor has the ability to understand a student’s needs, facilitate an author’s goals, deliver an instructor’s requirements, and help construct the publisher’s vision.

üFull responsibility for manuscript preparation which meets the highest quality, time and Cost standards. Working with authors, adaptors, contributors, and Production and Technology colleagues to deliver high quality publications (and supplements), in a timely fashion.

* Primary Responsibility *

1.Continuous and detailed analysis of syllabus-competition mapping and publishing trend analysis.

2.Selecting, negotiating, and liaising with freelancers. Assessing, procuring, and managing all third-party material, with strict adherence to intellectual property rights and anti-infringement laws and guidelines.

3.Assessing and preparing both print and digital products for copy-editing; Checking proofs at all stages.

4.Planning, scheduling, and preparing supplements packages as required.

5.Creating and checking blurbs and cover designs

6.Take initiative and responsibility for project tasks so that project team(s) meet completion timelines.At all times taking a proactive role in driving a project forward
